UTRIP 2023 summary

Extracurricular Activities

Immersion in a work environment in a different culture equips students with skills that go beyond the specific internship experience, and makes the program more rewarding and fruitful for the students. We designed the program to be an opportunity to explore not only academic interests, but also cultural views. Based on such a policy, we included extracurricular activities such as a one-day excursion and Japanese culture experiences.

Field Trip

Kabukiza Theatre

Students watched Kabuki, one of Japan's most representative traditional performing arts, at Kabukiza.

The performance was “Chrysanthemum Party and Thieves in the Moonlight,'' which was written based on the world of “Chushingura,'' one of the three great Kyogen masterpieces. The performances that took place throughout the stage, such as standing around the large roof and somersaults, made a strong impression on the students. The students were also able to develop a strong interest in the traditional architecture and interiors of the Kabukiza Theater.

Making Food Samples

In Asakusa, students experienced making food samples which was born from Japan's rich eating out culture. At the Ganso Shokuhin Sample-ya, which has inherited a tradition of 90 years since its founding, we have created tempura and lettuce using wax. The students were able to enjoy a very unique and exciting production experience that they would never have anywhere else.
