SPRING GX & BOOST NAIS: 2026 Fall Call for Applications

SPRING GX
The “Fostering Advanced Human Resource Development to Lead Green Transformation (GX)” project (hereinafter referred to as "SPRING GX"), which has been selected for and is being supported by the “Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation” (SPRING) Program of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), will accept applications for project students who wish to enter the doctoral program (including four-year doctoral programs) at the University in Fall 2026.
- Eligibility: Those who plan to enroll in a doctoral program (including four-year doctoral programs) at the University of Tokyo in September or October 2026 (including those currently applying).
- Application Period: July 13, 2026 (Mon) – July 29, 2026 (Wed) by 3:00 p.m. (JST)
- Notification of Selection: September 17, 2026 (Thu)
- Number of places:
    - Domestic Students: Approximately 35
    - International Students: Approximately 35
* Eligibility details for Domestic Students and International Students are provided on the SPRING GX recruitment page.
* Students currently enrolled in a master’s program and affiliated with WINGS are also eligible; however, please note that WINGS students must submit different documents and use a separate application form.
*M2 students currently enrolled in WINGS are also eligible.

BOOST NAIS
The University of Tokyo “Advanced AI Talent Development to Lead the Next-Generation Intelligent Society (BOOST NAIS)” supported by the Broadening Opportunities for Outstanding young researchers and doctoral students in STrategic areas (BOOST) of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) , is open to all doctoral students (including those in 4-year doctoral programs) at the university. We seek participants who will enroll the doctoral program in Fall 2026.
- Eligibility: Those who plan to enroll in a doctoral program (including four-year doctoral programs) at the University of Tokyo in September or October 2026 (including those currently applying).
- Application Period: July 13, 2026 (Mon) – July 29, 2026 (Wed) by 3:00 p.m. (JST)
- Notification of Selection: September 3, 2026 (Thu)
- Number of places: Approximately 4
*M2 students currently enrolled in WINGS are also eligible.

Note: You may apply for both SPRING GX and BOOST NAIS. However, candidates selected for BOOST NAIS will not be selected for SPRING GX.
