Application

The International Graduate Program for Excellence in Earth-Space Science (IGPEES) is accepting applications for students who enrolled in the Master's Course in October, 2025 (including international students) and prospective students who will be enrolled in Doctoral Course in April, 2026 (except for current students of UTokyo). Please refer to the application guidelines attached below for more details.

Participating Departments

  • All the departments of the Graduate School of Science
  • The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Graduate School of Engineering
  • The Department of Advanced Energy / the Department of Complexity Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences

Application Period

  • Application Form and Research Proposal: From Monday, December 15, 2025, to 3:00 p.m. (JST) on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
  • Supervisor's Letter of Opinion: From Monday, December 15, 2025, to 3:00 p.m. (JST) on Thursday, January 8, 2026

*Late submissions will not be accepted.

*Note that it is not until you submit your application that the email asking your supervisor to fill out the form is sent to them.

*The secondary supervisor system is designed to provide students with a wide-ranging interdisciplinary perspective that goes beyond their specialist field. Students are thus expected to select secondary supervisors who work in research fields that are different from their own from the List of Secondary Supervisors.

<Regarding the Research Proposal>
After the above application period, if there are any revisions to the content, they will be accepted until the following deadline. Please include your Applicant ID in the email body and send the Research Proposal (converted to PDF) directly to the WINGS Desk at wings.s@gs.mail.u-tokyo.ac.jp .
However, this applies only to applicants who have completed their application through the system by the initial application deadline of January 6.

Final deadline for resubmission of Research Proposal:
Tuesday, January 13, 2026, by 3:00 p.m.(JST).

<Regarding the Supervisor's Letter of Opinion>
If you wish to revise the recommendation letter, please resend the updated letter to the WINGS Desk at wings.s@gs.mail.u-tokyo.ac.jp .

Final deadline for resubmission of faculty recommendation letters:
Thursday, January 15, 2026, by 3:00 p.m.(JST).
