Assistant Professor Kana Moriwaki received The Third Maria Skłodowska-Curie Award

Assistant Professor Kana Moriwaki

Assistant Professor Kana Moriwaki of the Research Center for the Early Universe has been awarded the 3rd Maria Skłodowska-Curie Award for Young Women in Research. We would like to extend our congratulations to her.

Since she was a graduate student at the Graduate School of Science, Kana Moriwaki has continued her research with the goal of elucidating the origin and evolutionary history of the universe by creating a global map of the universe through observations of distant galaxies. She has developed the world's first method of analyzing cosmological observation data using deep learning.Based on the results of supercomputer simulations of galaxy formation, she has proposed that the large-scale structure of the universe can be probed by detecting ionized oxygen emission lines from distant galaxies, thus bringing about a new development in the field of cosmology.

After completing her studies in the Department of Physics at the Graduate School, she took a childcare leave, and is now leading the data analysis group for the next-generation wide-area space observation project. She is also playing an active role in research on AI using the Fugaku computer in Japan, with her excellent leadership skills. The space exploration method proposed by Assistant Professor Moriwaki is about to be realized in the SUBLIME radio observation project led by The University of Tokyo. As a collaborator in this field, I am very pleased to know that her pioneering research results are recognized as this prestigious award.

We have high expectations that Assistant Professor Moriwaki's future research will lead us to the deepest mysteries of the universe, such as dark matter and dark energy.
