Introduction of Speakers

Ayari Takamura

I love science, and it is fun to learn about science and to interact with people through science. This is what the Faculty of Science made me realize. I studied chemistry, worked as a researcher at a government agency and Academic Support Staff, and am currently working on a national R&D strategy. I am constantly learning that there are many aspects of science and many ways to contribute. I have gone through my career with my own worries, and I would like to share my experiences and work with you. I hope that this will help you discover your own interests and provide you with a little opportunity to think about your future career path.

Multicellular organisms, including us, are made up of various tissues, each of which is composed of different cells. Although all cells have the same blueprint (DNA), the reason why each cell is different is that there are markers on genes that are used and not used. I have been studying "epi" genetics, the study of these markers, for many years using plants as material. I would like to talk about the latest discoveries not found in textbooks, including my experiences as a female researcher.
