Associate Professor Jun Okabayashi received the Magnetics Society of Japan's "Outstanding Research Award".

Jun Okabayashi Associate Professor

I am pleased to announce that Associate Professor Jun Okabayashi of Research Center for Spectrochemistry has received "Excellent Research Award" from the Magnetics Society of Japan, which is given to researchers who have made outstanding research achievements in magnetic science. Congratulations! The title of the award is "Exploration of Spin-Orbit Properties by X-ray Magnetic Spectroscopy”. Dr. Okabayashi has conducted research on X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and X-ray magnetic line dichroism (XMLD) spectroscopy at the beamlines installed and maintained by the Research Center for Spectrochemistry at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization. Using these magnetic spectroscopy techniques, he has developed a new science of element-selective spin-orbit properties from an interdisciplinary perspective of chemistry and physics. This award is in recognition of his pioneering research achievements in (i) elucidating the origin of magnetic anisotropy, (ii) developing operando XMCD under an external field and proposing the "orbital elasticity effect", and (iii) observing a special antiferromagnetic order using XMLD. We wish Dr. Okabayashi all the best for the further development of his research in the future.
