Introduction of Speakers

KURITANI Masumi

A girl who loved puzzles and Japanese history eventually became fascinated with chemistry. She chose to study chemistry at university, where she conducted research by synthesizing, manipulating, and sometimes being overwhelmed by new molecules. After graduation, I wanted to connect with society through my beloved chemistry and molecules, so I joined a chemical company. There, I learned there are  various roles other than R&D. In fact, I myself experienced various tasks such as planning, human resources, and studying abroad. In this session, I would like to talk about my experiences in junior high and high school, university, graduate school, and company.

Biography:
Ph.D. in 2012 from the Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo. After joining Showa Denko K.K. (now Resonac Holdings Corporation), I was responsible for multiple research and development projects, including organic LED and fullerenes. After studying abroad for MBA, I engaged in promoting open innovation, facilitating exchanges among researchers, and fostering ’corporate culture at headquarters. Currently, I am working on building better R&D systems.

KOGANEBUCHI Kae

"Why am I here?" This question led me to genome research on human evolution and phylogeny. Recently, ancient genomics, a field of research that analyzes DNA extracted from ancient remains, has developed. This progress is revealing new insights into human evolution and genetic diversity. In this talk, I would like to present the latest research along with my experiences and talk about the fascination of unraveling "what is a human being" from a scientific point of view.

Biography:
I received my master's degree from the Department of Integrated Biosciences, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo in 2010. After working in sales and marketing in the private sector, I completed my Ph.D. studies at Kitasato University Graduate School of Medicine in 2017. I then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Graduate School of Medicine, University of the Ryukyus, and as a project assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of the Ryukyus, before assuming my current position in 2020.
