Summary

We are pleased to announce a statement by the Faculty of Science of the 10 National University Corporation universities, declaring that they will work together to address the issue of gender balance.

Faculty of Science has explored the frontiers of the natural world, contributed to the discovery of new truths and the construction of new concepts, and supported science and technology that enrich our lives today. Science," the search for truth, is open to all. Nationwide, however, the number of female students in the Faculty of Science at all universities is significantly low, and it is difficult to say that a gender balance has been achieved. This gender balance is also thought to be related to social structures and backgrounds. Various studies and measures have been taken so far, including at universities, but further action is still needed in the future.

The two main points of this statement are as follows
1. The University will support students by creating an environment in which they can safely study and conduct research in the Faculty of Science regardless of gender, nationality, or other attributes.
2. We will enhance the provision of information on university life at the Faculty of Science and career paths after graduation to allay any concerns students may have about studying at the Faculty of Science.

Furthermore, as one of the initiatives in line with this statement, the 10 universities have launched a new website, "Science Navi," to convey the appeal of science to students, parents, and high school teachers. The website will provide information on campus life at each university, career paths after graduation from the Faculty of Science, and the appeal of the Faculty of Science to students who are interested in studying science.

The Council of Deans of Faculties of Science at the 10 National University Corporation aims to contribute to society by promoting education and research in the knowledge that is necessary for the continuation and development of basic science research in Japan and for the formation of an affluent society.
