Faculty Search for Associate Professor, Organic Chemistry Division, Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo

1. Position Level:
Associate Professor, one position
2. Field of Research:
This appointment is in the lab of Biomolecular Chemistry in the Organic Chemistry division. Research will be in the general area of Chemical Biology, with a specialized focus on development of photofunctional molecules, protein engineering, fluorescence spectroscopy, and cell imaging. The hired Associate Professor will conduct research and education activities in close collaboration with Prof. Robert E. Campbell.
3. Probation Period:
6 months from the date of employment
4. Qualifications and Selection:
The selection will be done by evaluation of submitted documents and a subsequent interview of top candidates. The main criteria for selection is a track-record of original and pioneering research in the area of Chemical Biology, with demonstrated excellence in some or all of the specialized focus areas listed above. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong potential and record of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels (both in Japanese and English). Candidates require a Ph.D. plus five or more years of working record as Assistant Professor, Lecturer, or Associate Professor (including their equivalent positions) in academia.
5. Position Start Date:
No earlier than December 1, 2022
6. Renewal of contract:
Not applicable (Tenured Position)
7. Working place:
The Campbell laboratory in the Department of Chemistry, the University of Tokyo, Hongo campus.
8. Working Hours:
Exact working hours will be left to the discretion of the successful candidate (discretionary work system for professional work applies), with total working hours deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.
9. Days off:
Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, and the year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3)
10. Insurance:
You will be automatically enrolled in the insurance from the Mutual Aid Association of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and Employment Insurance.
11. Salary:
Wages: Basic Salary will be decided taking your academic background, professional career, etc.
Alliwance: Commuting allowance (up to 55,000 per month if the payment conditions are satisfied), and other
allowances decided by the University.
