Faculty Search for Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo

1. Position Level:

Postdoctoral fellow

2. Field of Research:

This appointment is in the lab of Biomolecular Chemistry in the Organic Chemistry division. Research will be in the general area of Chemical Biology, with a specialized focus on molecular biology, protein engineering, fluorescence spectroscopy, and applications in cell imaging. The hired Postdoctoral fellow will conduct research activities in close collaboration with Prof. Robert E. Campbell.

3. Probation Period:

6 months from the date of employment

4. Qualifications and Selection:

The selection will be done by evaluation of submitted documents and a subsequent interview of top candidates. The main criteria for selection is a track-record of original and pioneering research in the area of Chemical Biology, with demonstrated excellence in some or all of the specialized focus areas listed above. Candidates require a Ph.D. degree at the start date.

5. Position Start Date:

No earlier than July 1, 2022

6. Renewal of contract:

The contract is yearly (April to March) and can be renewed. The end date is no later than June 30, 2025. Renewal of the agreement will be determined by all relevant factors, including: progress on the work assigned to you, your performance, work record, professional attitude, budget status, and the amount of the work completed by the end of the term.

7. Working place:

The Campbell laboratory in the Department of Chemistry, the University of Tokyo, Hongo campus.

8. Working Hours:

Exact working hours will be left to the discretion of the successful candidate (discretionary work system for professional work applies), with total working hours deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.

9. Days off:

Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, and the year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3)

10. Insurance:

You will be automatically enrolled in the insurance from the Mutual Aid Association of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and Employment Insurance.

11. Salary:

Salary is determined according to the rules of the University (a commuting allowance is paid, but no bonus). Expected amount is 4.2 to 4.8M yen (depending on experience and qualifications).

(4) Statement of previous research (A4 or US letter, two pages maximum) and statement of future research aspirations (A4 or US letter, one page maximum)

(5) The names and contact information of references (minimum 2 references)
