evolutionary zoology, ecological developmental biology

Research Subject

EvoDevo studies on the acquisition of innovative developmental systems in animal evolution, ecological developmental biology on phenotypic plasticity

Current Research

In animal lineages, innovative evolution has occasionally occurred, such as the acquisitions of multicellularity, individuality, bilateral and segmented bodyplans, that can lead diversification of animal designs. In my laboratory, focusing on various lineages over animal phyla, evolutionary developmental studies are carried out on innovative developmental mechanisms. Furthermore, studies on the physiological and developmental mechanisms underlying phenotypic plasticity, in which phenotypes are flexibly changed depending on environmental conditions during embryonic and post-embryonic development.
