1 Title and Number of Positions

Project Researcher, a few positions.

2 Contract Period

From the earliest possible date on or after April 1, 2026, until March 31, 2027.

3 Contract Renewal

The appointment may be renewed. If renewed, the renewal will be made on a fiscal-year basis. The number of renewals is limited to two, and the total period of employment shall not exceed March 31, 2029. No further renewal will be made thereafter.

Renewal will be determined based on the availability of the budget, progress of the assigned duties, workload at the time of contract expiration, work performance, work attitude, and health condition.

4 Probationary Period

Fourteen (14) days from the date of employment.

5 Work Location

Wako Branch, Center for Nuclear Study, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo (2-1 Hirosawa, Wako, Saitama; inside RIKEN).

(Scope of change) In principle, within the same bureau.

6 Job Description

The successful candidate will engage, in collaboration with faculty members of the Center for Nuclear Study (CNS), in experimental research on heavy-ion nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics using CNS core research facilities at the RIKEN accelerator complex (CRIB, SHARAQ, Ge-array systems, OEDO, etc.), in fundamental physics research using laser-cooled heavy elements, and in international collaborative research in high-energy heavy-ion physics at experiments such as ALICE at the LHC.

In principle, the University could change or reassign work duties.

7 Working Hours

Deemed working hours under the discretionary labor system for professional work: 7 hours 45 minutes per day.

8 Holidays and Leave

Weekends, national holidays, and year-end/New Year holidays (Dec. 29 - Jan. 3).

Annual paid leave and special leave as provided by University regulations.

9 Salary and Benefits

Annual salary system. Monthly salary is approximately JPY 300,000 including performance-based compensation (determined based on qualifications, abilities, and experience).

Allowances: Commuting allowance (up to JPY 55,000/month, subject to requirements).

10 Social Insurance

Enrollment in the Mutual Aid Association of MEXT and Employment Insurance, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

11 Qualifications

Applicants must have a doctoral degree at the time of application or be certain to obtain the degree before the start of employment.

14 Application Deadline

January 12, 2026 (Mon.), 17:00 JST (sharp).

After document screening, interviews will be conducted. Interviews are basically held onsite; however, online interviews may be arranged for applicants residing overseas or at remote institutions. Travel, accommodation, and communication expenses for the interview must be borne by the applicant.
