Seeking Specially Appointed Assistant Professor at the Quark Nuclear Science Institute, Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo

The Quark Nuclear Science Institute (QNSI), Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo, was established in July 2024. QNSI promotes the international collaborative ePIC experiment using the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in the USA. We are seeking a specially appointed assistant professor who can lead research on nuclear physics using the EIC, covering low energy to high energy nuclear physics, and who can play a central role in the development of the streaming data acquisition system for the ePIC experiment.

3 Contract period・Renewal of contract
Starting date - March 31, 2025. The contract may be renewed annually until a maximum of March 31, 2027. The renewal will be determined based on budget conditions, work progress, workload at the time of contract renewal, job performance, work attitude, health status, and other considerations.

7 Job description
Nuclear Physics Using the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC)
Participate in the international collaborative ePIC experiment at the "Electron-Ion Collider (EIC)" to be constructed at Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA, and promote nuclear research using the EIC accelerator. Perform the physics research in the ePIC experiment and the development of the streaming data acquisition system advanced by Japan group as a core member of the international collaborative research team.
(Scope of Changes) Transfers, dual appointments, and secondments may be ordered (in principle, these will not be ordered against one's will. For details, refer to Article 4 of the University of Tokyo's Employment Regulations for Faculty Members).
8 Working hours
Considered as 7 hours and 45 minutes of work per day under a specialized discretionary working system.
9 Holidays and Leave
Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3), annual paid leave, special leave, etc.
10 Salary etc.
The annual salary system will be applied, and compensation will be determined based on qualifications, abilities, experience, and performance, including achievement-based bonuses. Commuting allowance (up to a maximum of 55,000 yen per month if eligibility requirements are met).
11 Social insurance
Mutual Aid Association of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and employment insurance as required by law.
12 Qualifications
Doctoral degree holder at the time of the application deadline or be certain to obtain the degree by the time of appointment.
