2 Job Information
Overview:
The ICEPP, UTokyo participates in the LHC ATLAS experiment, which is hosted by CERN in Switzerland. The ICEPP has provided computing resources to ATLAS via the Worldwide LHC Computing Collaboration (WLCG) as a so-called Tier 2 center since 2007. The ICEPP Tier 2 center is one of the biggest Tier 2 centers in ATLAS. This center will be also operated for Run 3 (2022~) and HL-LHC (2027~).
Role of the Appointee:
The successful candidate is expected to work for both
① the operation and maintenance of the ICEPP ATLAS computing facility including the Tier 2 at UTokyo. For the maintenance, the candidate is required to communicate with system engineers from industrial companies in Japanese, and
② physics data analysis for Run3 and/or HL-LHC, in particular, using the innovative machine learning techniques etc.
(The balance of ① and ② is negotiable.)
3 Term of Employment
Starting as soon as the position is filled and ending on March 31, 2023.
4 Renewal of Contract
Employment may be renewed annually (up to maximum 5 years).
Renewal of the employment will be determined by taking into account budget status, assigned work progress, achievement at the end of work period, as well as attitudes in research activities.
5 Probationary Period
Appointee will serve a 6-month probationary period after the appointment.

7 Work Hours
The UTokyo will adopt the Discretionary Labor System for this position. Appointee will be paid according to the pre-determined number of hours, i.e., 7 hours 45 minutes per day, or 38 hours 45 minutes per week, instead of actual work hours.
8 Holidays
Saturdays, Sundays, Public holidays of Japan, Year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 through January 3).
Appointee will be able to use Annual paid leave, Special paid leave, etc.
9 Salary and Benefits
Appointee’s salary will be determined according to the rules of the UTokyo for non-permanent faculty positions.
  • Annual salary system is adopted, and appointee will be paid about 400K-470K JPY per month including performance-based bonus (depending on the appointee’s ability, performance and experience).
  • Appointee may be able to have commuting allowance (up to 55K JPY per month) if the payment conditions are satisfied.

Enrolled in an employment and health insurance provided by MEXT Mutual Aid Association
11 Eligibility
Persons with Ph. D or equivalent degree are considered to be eligible. Those who are expected to obtain Ph. D by the time of appointment are also considered.
