Project Assistant Professor Position on the ALICE experiment

The High Energy Heavy-Ion Physics group at Center for Nuclear Study, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo, has an opening position for a Project Assistant Professor starting from April 1, 2021. The group is lead by Prof. Taku Gunji and the group is involved in the relativistic heavy-ion physics program on the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The group has been very active in the GEM-TPC upgrade and physics data analyses which include dielectrons, photons, and particle correlations from small to large systems. The candidate is expected to have a strong role in the physics data analyses in Run3 and will play a leading role in the TPC operation and calibrations during Run3. The candidate will join the detector developments for the future experiments. The candidate will be based in Center for Nuclear Study and regular travels to CERN in order to conduct ALICE related activities are foreseen as appropriate.

3. Term of Employment:
One-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable up to March 31st, 2026 (maximum 5 years) according to research budget, research activity, and research achievements.

7. Work Duties:
The candidate is expected to have a strong role in the physics data analyses in Run3 and will play a leading role in the TPC operation and calibrations during Run3. The candidate will join the detector developments for the future experiments.
8. Working Hours:
Based on the discretionary work system for professional work, working hours are deemed to be 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.
9. Days off and Paid Leave:
Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays and end-of-year and new-year holidays (December 29 to January 3), Annual leave, bereavement leave, etc
10. Salary and Allowances:
~350,000 yen/month (gross). Commuting and other allowances determined following the rules of the University of Tokyo. The amount for the basic salary is decided based on the successful candidate's academic and professional background, etc. There is also a system for regular salary increases.
11. Insurance:
The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the health insurance and pension schemes provided by the Mutual Aid Association of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and will be provided with employment insurance.

Ph.D in experimental nuclear physics (by April 1st 2021)
