Research Field

Nuclear Physics (Experiment)

Research Subject

Strangeness nuclear physics, spectroscopic study of hypernuclei

Current Research

At the High Intensity Electron Accelerator Facility, we are investigating hypernuclei, which are quantum many-body systems with strange quarks, to deepen our understanding of the baryonic interactions (extended nuclear force) and to challenge the mystery of heavy neutron stars (hyperon puzzle). Major research facilities are 1) Jefferson Laboratory (JLab) in the U.S., 2) Mainz University in Germany (MAMI), and 3) Electron Photon Science Center (ELPH) at Tohoku University. They are high-energy, high-intensity electron accelerator facilities which can produce strange quarks. In addition to these facilities, we are promoting a hypernuclear experiment with the next generation pion beam at the High-Intensity High-Resolution Beamline (HIHR), which is being prepared as a part of next-generation hadron hall extension project at the J-PARC in Tokai.
