The University of Tokyo Faculty Position / Paleobiology

The Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo invites applications for a position as an associate professor in biogeosciences.

We seek a creative individual with a PhD and a strong background in the field of vertebrate paleobiology. The successful candidate will be appointed at the earliest possible date. He or she will be expected to exercise leadership, to work collaboratively with other members of the Geo-Biosphere Group and the other groups in the department, and to give lectures and supervise laboratory and field courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. If not already fluent in Japanese, he or she will be expected to achieve fluency sufficient for giving lectures and performing administrative duties within several years.

Interested persons should send (a) a curriculum vitae, including a list of publications; (b) statements of (i) their research experience, (ii) their teaching experience, (iii) their future research plans, and (iv) how they intend to contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in our department if appointed (about 2000 words in total); (c) reprints of five of their major publications (pdf files allowed); and (d) the names, addresses, and e–mail addresses of two references. Applications must be received by June 16, 2017 via either e-mail or postal mail.
