Taxonomy and Systematics of Ferns and Lycophytes
Current Research
Ferns and lycophytes are the extant groups of vascular plants that reproduce through alternation of generations and disperse via spores. With over 11,000 species worldwide, these pioneer plants play a crucial role in the establishment and maintenance of ecosystems. The highest diversity of ferns and lycophytes is found in tropical and subtropical regions, with many endemic species occurring in high-altitude mountains and island environments.
My research focuses on the taxonomy of fern groups distributed in East Asia, with particular attention to cryptic lineages that are difficult to identify. The specific areas of my research include:
• Taxonomic diversity of the Hymenophyllaceae family
• Investigation of cryptic and polyploid populations of Plagiogyria species
• Museomics and studies based on herbarium specimens
