Research Subject
Study of Neural Structure and Function based on Behavioral Genetics of the Nematode C. elegans
Current Research
Using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, of which the total number of neurons (exactly 302 neurons) and all the connections between them are known, my research aims to holistically understand the functions of the neural circuits and molecules acting there. As a measure of the functions of the nervous system, we take as an output the behaviors of nematodes, particularly chemotactic behaviors, and study them by using both forward and reverse genetics, namely making use of mutants and transgenic animals.
