The logo of the School of Science of the University of Tokyo was selected from among 84 entries submitted by 50 applicants. Blue and yellow were used as they are the school colors of the University of Tokyo.

The outer blue curves look like the /hiragana/ character "ri," which is the first syllable of the Japanese word "rigaku," which means "science" in Japanese. The inner yellow figure resembles the letter "s" from "science." We think the logo attractively symbolizes the School of Science, and hope it will be used for many years to come.
