[Event Report] Orientation for New GSC Transfer Students
On Tuesday September 20th, 2016, an orientation was held to welcome five new international students onto the Global Science Course. Having transferred from universities outside of Japan, the GSC class of 2016-2018 are the third cohort of students to enter the program.
During the first half of the orientation, GSC students and staff members gathered in the Department of Chemistry. Welcoming speeches were given by the Dean of the School of Science, Professor Fukuda, the Vice Dean of the School of Science and GSC Coordinator, Professor Yamanouchi and the Head of Committee of Academic Affairs in the Department of Chemistry, Professor Tsukuda.
Each student gave a self-introduction to their new classmates and teachers. There were also short introductions given by Attending Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and staff members from the Department of Chemistry and the Global Science Course.
The second half of the orientation was held in the School of Science and was conducted by the International Liaison Office. Students were guided over issues such as handling visas, matters concerning life in Japan in general and the various departments, services and opportunities accessible to students at the University of Tokyo.
We hope that the students found the orientation to be informative, enjoyable and that they are now ready to embark on their futures as the newest members of the Global Science Course.
