Global Science Course
Current UTokyo Students Program 2019

1. Aim
To provide an exclusive opportunity for students in the School of Science at the University of Tokyo to expand their horizons by experiencing cross-cultural interactions and learning from each other
2. Number of Admissions
Approximately 5 students
3. Admission Requirements
  • Second year UTokyo College of Arts and Science students who will be advancing to the Department of Chemistry, School of Science
  • Outstanding academic achievement
  • Keen to provide support for GSC transfer students
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm in being globally active
4. Program Duration
From April 2019 to September 2020
5. Program Support
GSC students will receive financial support for:
  • A short-term research abroad program
    (including pre-approved expenses such as tuition/research fees, accommodation, round trip airfare, and basic daily expenses)
  • A TOEFL Preparation Course and a TOEFL test
    (The course will be arranged for S Semester 2019)
6. Program Responsibilities
  • To submit a report and deliver a presentation upon completion of the research abroad program
  • To take the TOEFL test within two months after completing the TOEFL Preparation Course and submit the score to the GSC Administration office
  • To participate in each GSC Seminar
7. Application Documents
All application documents must be submitted via the GSC website by the deadline.
  • Application form (including a 1,000 word personal statement)
  • University academic transcript (both in Japanese and in English)
  • English language test score (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, or Eiken)
8. Application Period
December 5, 2018 to 17:00, December 19, 2018 (JST)
9. Application Review
Stage One: Document Screening
Stage Two: Interview in English
Interview Date: January or February 2019 (TBA)
10. Admission Decisions
Admission decisions will be notified via email in March 2019
(After the announcement for senior division advancement)
