Prof. Shu Kobayashi (Department of Chemistry) awarded the T.-Y. Luh Lectureship
Associate Professor Yasuhiro Yamashita, Department of Chemistry
This year, Prof. Shu Kobayashi was selected for the T.-Y. Luh Lectureship. Prof. T.-Y. Luh (陸天堯), a professor emeritus at National Taiwan University, made significant contributions to the field of organic chemistry. Following his retirement last year, the university created the T.-Y. Luh Lectureship in his honor to recognize world-class organic chemists for their research excellence and to invite them to present their research in Taiwan. Prof. Kobayashi was selected as the first winner of the award, and a ceremony and an award lecture were held at Taipei in January. Prof. Kobayashi is interested in developing Green Sustainable Chemistry, and has investigated organic reactions in water, polymer-immobilized metal catalysts, and flow fine organic synthesis to help minimize chemical wastes in organic synthesis.
National Taiwan University was established in 1928, and a grand ceremony to celebrate its 90th birthday was held last year.
I would like to congratulate Prof. Kobayashi for winning this prestigious award.
