固体化学は、分子ではなく、酸化物などをはじめとする結晶性固体を対象とする。また、超伝導、磁性などの様々な機能を理解するには、固体物理的な視点が重要であるため、化学的側面は軽視されることも多い。しかしながら、最近では、低温トポケミカル反応のような反応化学の発展、複合アニオン化合物などの新しい材料の発見、計算や観測技術の進歩、などによって、固体化学の化学的側面が大きな変化が起きつつある。講義を通じてその流れを紹介したい。

Solid state chemistry traditionally deals with extended solids such as oxides, not molecules. In order to understand various functions from these materials such as magnetism and superconductivity, physics based view, rather than chemistry based view, used to be valued. However, recent development of reaction toolboxes, discovery of novel materials (e.g., mixed-anion compounds), and the state-of-the-art techniques for characterizations has been drastically changing the shape of solid state chemistry. My lecture overviews such recent development, as well as future perspectives.
