銀河の化学的力学的諸特性を広範な観測データに基づいて概観し、その原因に ついて述べる。　また膨張宇宙で銀河がどのように形成され進化を遂げたのか 標準的なシナリオに基づいて概説し、そのシナリオと矛盾する最近の諸問題を 解説し、その解決に向けた展望を述べる。最後にZ-7の超高赤方偏移クエーサー の観測に基づいた宇宙の化学進化研究の展望を述べる。

Chemical and dynamical properties of spiral and elliptical galaxies in different environment in the universe are viewed on the basis of a wide range of observational data, and their possible causes are described. Then, the standard ΛCDM hierarchical clustering scenario is outlined, and the recent problems that are inconsistent with this scenario are described with some outlook for their resolution. Finally, prospects for studies of the cosmic chemical evolution probed by ultra high-z QSOs in the observational limit will be described.
