Molecular mechanisms regulating neocortical development

Current Research

In the developing mammalian neocortex, neurons and astrocytes are primarily generated from neural progenitor cells. By using in vivo gene transfer technique, our research aims to understand the molecular mechanism of brain development, focusing on following 3 aspects. (1) What determines the cell fate of neural progenitors? (2) How is neuronal migration/maturation regulated? (3) How are neurons protected against neurotoxicity? Our results will contribute to understanding of fundamental mechanisms that underlie the generation of the nervous system, and to the development of therapies to treat brain dysfunction.
