Research Field
Groundwater Earthquake Chemistry
Research Subject
Study of seismic activity based on continuous observations of chemical species in groundwater
Current Research
Based on the continuous observation data of density variations of the gas and ions dissolved in groundwater, I investigate chemical changes caused by seismic activities to understand earthquake phenomena from the viewpoint of chemistry. To turn these research results to predictions of earthquake occurrence, I not only conduct rock fracture experiments focusing on the relationship between seismic activities and chemical changes, but also suggest proposals on prediction models. For observation method, I am engaged in development of continuous observation systems using a mass spectrometer and rock fracture devices.
