Research Field

Earth and Planetary System Science

Research Subject

Theoretical study of evolution, stability, and variability of surface environments of the Earth and other terrestrial planets

Current Research

We are working on the evolution of the Earth's surface environment (climate, atmosphere, ocean, life, etc.) and the catastrophic geological events (mass extinction events, such as the K/T boundary event and the snowball Earth events) based on the Earth system modeling, geological survey, and geochemical analyses. We also study the evolution and stability of surface environments of terrestrial planets of the solar system and extrasolar planetary systems.

Keywords

Earth history, Evolution of atmosphere and climate, geochemical cycle, palaeoclimate, snowball Earth, co-evolution of the Earth and life, comparative planetology
