Planetary Evolution. Hypervelocity Impact Processes between Planetary Bodies.
Current Research
During the time when life was born on Earth and when Mars may have had warm and humid climate, there still were probably a lot of small bodies in the Solar System and continued to bombard Earth and Mars. The effects of such meteoritic bombardment are believed to have played important roles in origin of life and climatic change on planets. We are investigating physical processes of hypervelocity impacts in order to understand this intriguing period of time of planetary evolution. More specifically, we conduct hypervelocity impact experiments, laser irradiation experiments, high-speed measurement, mass spectrometry measurement, and numerical simulations.
