Research Field
Classification and Evolution of Eukaryotic Plants
Research Subject
Descriptive Taxonomy, Evolutionary Biology of Sexuality, Origin and Macrotaxonomy of Eukaryotic Plants
Current Research
Aiming at the clarification of diversity of eukaryotic plants and mechanism of cellular evolution, we are conducting taxonomic investigations of eukaryotic plants at the species level as well as evolutionary studies using morphological and molecular data in order to resolve fundamental biological problems. Using the colonial volvocalean algae, origin of male-female sexuality is now unveiling at molecular and genome levels. In order to understand the process from the cyanobacterial endosymbiosis to the birth of the eukaryotic plants, we are also investigating the macrophylogeny of eukaryotes based on genome analysis.
