Sedimentology, Geochemistry

Research Subject

Empirical Study on Changing Factors of Earth Environment based on Sedimentological and Geochemical Methods

Current Research

Major research interests are marine gas hydrates and environmental change of earth surface for the late Precambrian to the Quaternary period. I am working to clarify empirically the change of earth environment and the mechanism of co-evolution of the earth and life based on field survey and analysis of geochemical parameters such as isotopic signatures of carbonate rocks and black shale in particular of the Ordovician-Silurian boundary strata. It is highly likely that the behaviors of gas hydrate, which is an enormous carbon sink of earth surface, have been closely related to dramatic environmental changes. In this sense, another research targets include the identification of subsurface and shallow gas hydrates, methane seeps and gas-hydrate-induced environmental changes in Japan Sea and Nankai Trough.
