Research Subject

Study on evolution of visual pigment genes focusing on primates and fish

Current Research

My research aims to clarify how the varieties of color vision have evolved in vertebrates. Focusing on the visual pigments in the retina, I am trying to clarify their diversity mainly examining primates and fish. I am studying repertoires of visual opsin genes as well as their expression mechanisms. In addition, I conduct a fieldwork to investigate the relation between evolution of animal behaviors and color vision in New World monkeys that live in Central and South America.
