Mechanism of Formation and Function of Cellular Motility Machinery
Current Research
I am studying the assembly and movements of flagellar axoneme. My research aims to clarify the mechanism that produces the regular axonemal structure, and to understand the properties of force generating protein dynein. For these purposes, I perform various experiments ranging from genetics, biochemistry to biophysics, using a unicellular green alga, Chlamydomonas. The ultimate goal of my research is to produce, from purified proteins, a molecular machine that generates oscillatory bending movements as observed in cilia and flagella.
