Developmental mechanisms that regulate development and differentiation in plants
Current Research
We are interested in the developmental mechanisms underlying stem cell maintenance, flowe development and leaf morphogenesis. We are mainly focusing on a model monocot, rice (Oryza sativa). Recently, we found that two genes that encodes CLV3-like CLE protein, Floral Organ Number2 (FON2) and FON2-like CLE protein1 (FCP1), may have functionally diversified to regulate the different types of meristem, the flower meristem and the vegetative shoot apical meristem, during evolution of rice. We also revealed that the YABBY gene DROOPING LEAF (DL) regulates carpel specification, instead of the AGAMOUS-like C class MADS-box gene, in rice. These findings suggest that rice has both conserved and diversified genetic mechanisms for its development.
