Research Field
Human Genetics, DNA Polymorphism
Research Subject
Origin of Japanese People based on DNA Polymorphism, Aging Phenomena Occurring in DNA
Current Research
I am working to clarify the mitochondria and DNA polymorphism of nucleus in human groups mainly in Asia. Based on the research results, I am working to define the relationships among the groups as well as the background of origin and formation of the Japanese. Base substitution of specific part and partial deletion of certain part, which can be described as “scar of molecules”, occur in mitochondria DNA as aging phenomena. I am working on the proportion of mitochondria DNA molecules accompanied by these base substitution and deletion in order to understand the nature of aging and use it for application to age estimation.
