【Educational and Research Objectives】
The mission of education and research in science is to create new streams of knowledge, develop them, and pass them on to future generations, in never-ending search for a fundamental understanding of nature. The Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo, seeks to build, upon the foundation of its prominence in research, a hub for the mobilization of intellect on a global scale. This is where the next generation of researchers absorbs the principles and methodologies of science, and in doing so evolves into global citizens equipped with the alacrity, ingenuity, and scientific resources required to tackle heretofore unknown challenges in the future world. Involving a greater number of international students to globalize the learning environment in which cutting edge education and research advance hand in hand is essential for this goal. The Global Science Graduate Course (GSGC) has been established to help create such an environment. The GSGC allows its students to obtain their degrees using English only, provides them with financial support in the form of a scholarship, and assists them under the framework of its industry-government-academia cooperation as they seek employment after obtaining their degrees. In doing so, the program aims to attract excellent university graduates from universities all over the world, and foster world-class science professionals, by standardizing a five-year integrated education scheme in which students attend both the Master’s course and the Doctoral course in sequence.
【What We Look for in GSGC Applicants】
・Those who are capable of grasping phenomena objectively from a universal view point, developing methodologies for clarifying unknown phenomena, and deepening our understanding of nature by developing logical thought
・ Those who are able to tackle new research targets and explore new frontiers on the basis of original ideas free from previously established ways of thinking
・ Those who aspire to play an active role internationally at the forefront of science by taking full advantage of the expertise and advanced research abilities gained in their graduate school studies
We will provide a scholarship of 180,000 yen per month (repayment not required) while the student is on the course (for two years while they are in the Master's program, and for three years while they are in the Doctoral program).
