[Event Report] Global Science Course Press Release

Global Science Course is a first-of-its-kind undergraduate transfer program in the University of Tokyo and it has been receiving positive support University-wide. A press release was held at the School of Science of the University of Tokyo in anticipation of the GSC Fall 2014 admissions which starts officially on October 1st, 2014.

The event was hosted by the Office of Communications of the School of Science in cooperation with the GSC Administration Office and the Information Technology Team. By working closely, we ensured that the event ran smoothly. The press release was held in Japanese as it was aimed at the Japanese media. Invites were sent out to various newspapers such as The Asahi Shimbun, Nikkei Asian Review etc.

Respectable representatives from the University of Tokyo that were present are Professor Hiroaki Aihara, Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo, Professor Makoto Gonokami, Dean of the School of Science, and Professor Kaoru Yamanouchi, Vice Dean of the School of Science and GSC Coordinator.

The press release kicked off with a Powerpoint presentation delivered by Professor Kaoru Yamanouchi followed by brief speeches from both Professor Gonokami and Professor Aihara. The reporters were also given various print materials for referencing purposes. The press release ended with a Q & A session.

The message we wanted to deliver to the public is that GSC will not only open doors for international students to pursue their studies in UTokyo but also for domestic students to be able to gain knowledge in an internationalized environment. It is definitely not an easy task to achieve globalization for the whole university overnight but we are starting by taking small steps.
